Revealed: Majority of Liverpool fans want club to sign Victor Wanyama

According to reports in The Mirror last week, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to cash in on midfielder Victor Wanyama, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to move some of his fringe players on to boost his budget for new signings.

Despite being something of a regular in the starting XI following his move from Southampton in 2016, the Kenya international has struggled to break back into the side following an injury that kept him on the sidelines from the end of August until the start of 2018.

Now it seems as though the north London outfit are ready to sacrifice him, and he could potentially solve a problem position for Liverpool.

The Reds don’t look to be too far away from the perfect package in terms of personnel right now, although their lack of a strong, defensive midfielder who can shield the back four is perhaps one of their main weaknesses.

With Emre Can likely to be on his way out when his contract expires at the end of the season, and Jordan Henderson not for right for the role in certain games, midfield enforcer Wanyama could be the answer to their problems.

We asked Liverpool fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would like their club to move for the African star this summer, and 64% would be keen for Jurgen Klopp to wrap up a deal.

With Naby Keita already on his way from RB Leipzig, it will be interesting to see whether the German boss feels that he needs another body in the midfield, or not.

Everton fans split on Wenger links

Everton fans can’t decide on the latest managerial links, after a report claimed the club have made inquiries to sign Arsene Wenger.

According to Paul Brown of the Daily Star, Everton are now certain to axe Sam Allardyce this summer, despite the former England manager already making his transfer plans.

The report claims Arsene Wenger has had plenty of offers since he announced he would step down from Arsenal at the end of this season, and the Toffees have reportedly added him to their shortlist.

David Dein, the former vice-Chairman for the Gunners, is reportedly acting as an intermediary in the talks.

Wenger is yet to decide whether he will stay in coaching or move to a different role at a new club, but Everton have been making “regular inquiries” about bringing him to Merseyside.

Of course, the biggest criticism of current manager Sam Allardyce is his negative brand of football, certainly not something Wenger could be criticised for.

However, some fans have expressed concerns about taking on “rejects” from other Premier League clubs, and fans are now completely split on the links.

Leeds fans react as club waits to hear if Tom Pearce will accept contract offer

According to reports in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are waiting to see if left-back Tom Pearce will accept the new contract he has been offered, and Whites fans have been quick to have their say on the situation.

The 6ft 1in tall left-back’s current deal is due to run out next month, and the Yorkshire Evening Post says that the club are set to confirm on Friday that he has been offered new terms to stay at Elland Road having become a regular in the XI towards the end of the campaign.

The 20-year-old made five Championship appearances in total, and scored his first senior goal for the club in the 2-1 win against Barnsley last month.

Leeds supporters, who have been fearfing the worst about the discussions between the two parties on Twitter, took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and they were clearly unhappy.

While one said they “really would not be too bothered if he went”, another said “who does he think he is?”

Leeds fans bash transfer target as club pushes him out the door

Leeds fans are praying their club doesn’t repeat the mistakes of last summer, after Carpi’s club president said they have until the end of June to sign Jerry Mbakogu.

Leeds have been heavily linked with a summer swoop for Mbakogu, who grabbed eight goals in all competitions this season, but fans are adamant they don’t want the Nigerian striker.

Abel Hernandez is the preferred striker option for most fans, but the Carpi president is now heaping pressure on Leeds to jump into a deal for Mbakogu, and even hinting that it’s basically a done deal.

“We have signed a pre-contract with Leeds and by end of the 30th June we will have to close it,” team president Stefano Bonacini said.

“Unless there are some unexpected traps, he will play there next season.”

The towering striker, dubbed “the new Didier Drogba” by his agent, missed part of the season through injury, but his pace and power does seem quite well suited to the Championship.

That said, fans are desperate for a proven goalscorer in the division like Hernandez, and they aren’t too happy about the Mbakogu deal, which is already done if you believe the Serie B club’s president.

It does seem rather bizarre that a player’s agent and club would push so hard to sell him, and it’s certainly raised the red flags amongst Leeds fans, who are still reeling from signing the likes of Felix Wiedwald and Caleb Ekuban.

Rangers can’t afford another Russell Martin level error in transfer market this summer

As reported by The Argus, former Rangers defender Russell Martin has opened up on his failed loan move to the club last season, believing that while it it was wrong time for him at Ibrox, it could be a big move for transfer target Connor Goldson.

What’s the story?

Martin joined Rangers in the January transfer window as Graeme Murty and Mark Allen attempted to add a bit of experience and solidity to the Light Blues’ defensive line.

Unfortunately for all parties it didn’t work out like that and Martin proved to be part of one of the worst Gers defences in recent memory.

The player reckons it was the wrong place, wrong time for him, but would still recommend that a player like Connor Goldson, linked with a move to the Gers recently, jumps at the chance of a move.

As quoted by The Argus, the Scotland international said:

For me it was a bit wrong place, wrong time. The club was a bit all over the place and then a change of manager, who was an interim manager anyway. But I loved playing for a football club of that size and that support.

I guess for Connor at this stage of his career it will be for him to decide whether he wants to go up the road and compete to win things or whether he has got a burning desire to stay here and try to get back in the Premier League and play in the Championship regularly.

If anyone asked me would you sign there I’d always recommend doing it. It’s got everything there, it’s just waiting for lift-off.

How bad was the Rangers defence last season?

Despite scoring more goals than the entire Scottish Premiership, including Celtic, Rangers managed to find themselves in third position by the time the season was over, highlighting how much their defence struggled to cope throughout.

They ended up conceding more goals that every side in the top six, with the likes of Bruno Alves and Russell Martin badly letting their side with consistently uncertain performances in the heart of the defensive line.

Martin himself was a bit of a disaster signing and it’s a transfer misstep that the club can’t afford to make this summer. Steven Gerrard must know that the defence is a massive priority this summer and they need every signing there to be a smash hit, or they’ll again struggle to challenge for trophies next season.

Fresh twist in Liverpool’s hunt for a goalkeeper, fans react

Liverpool have moved quickly in the transfer window by wrapping up a surprise move for Monaco midfielder Fabinho.

Naby Keita will also join the midfield in July after agreeing a move to Anfield from RB Leipzig last summer.

One position that desperately needs addressing is goalkeeper, but the Reds are no closer to solving that issue.

According to The Mirror, top targets Jan Oblak and Alisson are being priced out of a move by Atletico Madrid and Roma respectively.

The newspaper claims that Atletico want in excess of £80m for their shot-stopper due to a release clause in his contract, while signing Alisson from Roma would be difficult due to the fact that the Italian outfit sold Mohamed Salah to Liverpool for a relatively cheap fee last summer.

It is believed that Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy could now be an alternative option.

It appears that the Merseyside outfit could struggle to bring in a world-class figure if they are unwilling to pay staggering figures.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans have taken to social media to post their views on the situation.

Revealed: Majority of West Ham fans want club to sign Gary Cahill

According to reports in the Evening Standard on June 6, Chelsea are reportedly lining up a summer move for £45m-rated Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles, and we at Football FanCast suggested that West Ham United should swoop for Blues captain Gary Cahill if that happened.

New Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini seems keen to significantly strengthen his newly-inherited squad this summer in order to ensure they finish top-half minimum next term, and the centre-half position should be one of his priorities following the departures of Jose Fonte and James Collins in the last few months.

Cahill, rated at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, was often in and out of the starting XI at Stamford Bridge last term, and the arrival of Lascelles would surely leave him even further down the pecking order considering they already have the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger to choose from.

The 6ft 4in colossus, currently with England at the 2018 World Cup, would certainly bring plenty of experience and leadership to the heart of the Hammers defence, and that could be key for them during the 2018/19 campaign.

We asked West Ham fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would want their club to sign Cahill, and a majority 67% said they would.

It will certainly be interesting to see how things pan out with both Cahill and West Ham in the next few weeks, and whether Pellegrini opts for youth and fresh legs in his defence over experience.

Man United fans are admiring Ivan Persisic’s contribution at the World Cup

Manchester United supporters appear to regret missing out on the transfer of Ivan Perisic last summer after watching him in action for Croatia so far in the World Cup.

The tournament in Russia has been an engrossing watch this summer and one of the biggest surprises so far was Croatia’s dismantling of Argentina on Thursday night, winning 3-0.

Perisic plays a crucial role for his country and Man United fans believe that he could have had a big impact for Jose Mourinho’s side last season in support of the likes of Romelu Lukaku.

The Inter Milan winger was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, before opting to sign a new contract at the Italian giants.

He went on to have a big 2017/18 season, scoring 11 times and assisting 9 more in Serie A.

Will his performances for Croatia this summer continue to make United fans jealous?

Sheffield Wednesday fans bash departing Hirst

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been discussing the exit of youngster George Hirst, and they’re not impressed by the 19 year-old’s behaviour.

Wednesday’s wonderkid has left the club to join OH Leuven, and the Owls will receive “no more than” £159,000, according to the Star.

The Belgian side are a sister club of Leicester City, who Hirst was also linked with, and are managed by the one and only Nigel Pearson.

Despite making just two senior appearances for the Owls, Hirst has shown his huge potential playing for England’s youth sides, scoring at U17, U18, U19 and U20 level for his country.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”257647″ player=”12034″ title=”Three reasons we love to hate… Brazil and Argentina”]

The 19 year-old forward’s contract expires this summer though, meaning Wednesday will not receive a direct transfer fee for the youngster.

They are however entitled to compensation as Hirst is under 24, so the Belgian side will have to pay a small fee for every year the youngster has spent developing at Hillsborough.

This fee is expected to be around €180,000 (£159,000), and fans are not happy with the youngster, who reportedly rejected a contract that would have made him the best-paid youngster in Wednesday’s history.
