BCB president Nazmul Hassan has said he is unsure whether Bangladesh’s domestic one-day competition, the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, will start on time. He admitted to an underlying anxiety around the possibility of finding more names in the BPL corruption report to be submitted by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) later this month.The Dhaka Premier League has been re-scheduled to start on July 3 while its players’ transfers have been scheduled for June 23. Hassan expects to receive the ACSU report during the ICC annual conference to be held in London from June 25 to 29.Mohammad Ashraful is the only player to have confessed to his involvement in match-fixing and spot-fixing during this season’s BPL, after being questioned by the ACSU. It is still not clear whether there are any other players or officials involved, but Hassan doesn’t want to start a tournament without a clean slate.”Unless I have the ACSU report, it will be difficult for me to hold the players’ transfer,” Hassan said. “I have to look at all the sides of the matter. What would happen if there are more names in the ACSU report? I am not saying it’s there, but I pray to Allah that there are no other names. The day I heard that someone like Ashraful has confessed, the ACSU report became my topmost priority.”Hassan said that the BCB will dole out punishments independently, but will take note of ACSU’s recommendation. “They are probably investigating further from the last time I met them. It may also happen that since I am going to London to attend the ICC annual conference, they could give it to me there.”The ACSU will have a recommendation but the final decision is BCB’s. We have asked for the report, but I don’t want to hurry them. What if it becomes a major problem? Please don’t get me wrong but I don’t want to be in a situation where I have to pull players out of Premier League clubs.”Apart from the ACSU report, the BCB chief almost ruled out league for another reason – lack of available cricket grounds.”Our plan was to do it in September,” Hassan said. “We have no grounds, all of which are being worked on. The players requested me to start the league, and we have kept it. The clubs and players can give us suggestions, but the final decision lies with the BCB.”

Após a vitória do Flamengo sobre o Botafogo, na tarde deste sábado, no Nilton Santos, o técnico Abel Braga elogiou o espírito coletivo do time rubro-negro, que conseguiu a virada e triunfou por 2 a 1, com dois gols de Bruno Henrique.

Apesar do bom resultado, o comandante apontou que a equipe teve erros e que os jogadores, individualmente, estiveram abaixo do esperado.

– Hoje, tivemos o espírito coletivo. Se sobressaiu muito. Muito mais convincente que a parte individual. Foi o jogo que mais erramos. Erramos no gol (do Botafogo) no corte da bola e depois, quando recuperamos, perdemos e sofremos o gol, mas mesmo assim ficou nítido que individualmente ficamos abaixo. Abel aproveitou para fazer elogios ao atacante Bruno Henrique, que fez a estreia pelo Flamengo e se tornou o nome do jogo.

– Lembra do gol dele contra o Fluminense, quando o Santos venceu por 1 a 0? Nós (Fluminense) jogávamos com três centrais e, no primeiro ataque do Santos, ele fez uma diagonal, matou no peito e fez. Um jogador do tamanho dele, com presença de área, velocidade. É sensacional. Não tem a potência (no chute) do Vitinho, mas tem faro de gol. Estou contente porque ele nem treinou com essa equipe. Como fez os gols, estão me dando essa moral (risos). Todo mundo queria Arrascaeta e Gabigol. Ele está de parabéns, assim como todo mundo. O que impressionou é que parece que ele esta treinando há muito tempo com o pessoal – apontou ele, que completou:

-O Bruno Henrique deu uma opção tática muito interessante. Posso te garantir que foi o primeiro nome que pedi.

O treinador explicou ainda o motivo de ter tirado o meia Diego e colocado o volante Piris.

– Opção tática. Eu ia colocar o Arrascaeta, mas quando vi que ele (Zé Ricardo) colocou o Pimpão, ficou com o Luiz Fernando por trás do Kieza, vi que optou por um jogador ofensivo. Eu estava vencendo jogo, um jogo seguro. É assim, como gato e rato. Tivemos todo o domínio. Foi um jogo sem grandes oportunidades, mas, mesmo depois da entrada do Piris, tivemos duas ou três chances. Foi uma vitória justa – afirmou.

Sri Lanka’s coach Graham Ford has criticised his team for sloppiness in the field and between the wickets during their opening ODI loss to Australia, stressing that both departments must improve if the visitors are to achieve parity in the series with a victory in Adelaide on Sunday.Facing an Australian side lacking numerous luminaries, including the captain Michael Clarke and the opening batsman David Warner, Sri Lanka allowed the hosts to post a muscular 5 for 305 before tossing away their chance at getting near to the target by surrendering three wickets to run outs. Ford was concerned by both the issues between the wickets and a lack of consistent pressure with the ball.”We know we’re a better side than that in the field,” Ford said before the team’s departure from Melbourne. “We dished up some fairly easy boundary balls which released pressure for the batters. The game plan is to try to build pressure and when you’re releasing it every couple of overs it puts up on the back foot.”The new field-place restrictions, we found that a little bit hard and maybe the fielders didn’t support the bowlers as well as they could have. The problem is we did just give away too many easy boundary balls.”Both Australia and Sri Lanka had been bedevilled by run outs during the recent Test series and the pattern was maintained at the MCG, though the hosts’ loss of Usman Khawaja proved far less ruinous than the trio – Tillakaratne Dilshan, Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirmanne – lost by the tourists during their chase.”There’s been a bit of discussion. You just can’t afford to be off your game at all against players of that calibre. I don’t think anything’s changed. I don’t think there’s any sort of intimidation. Suresh Raina, who was dropped from the India Test squad for the England series, believes he can extend his Test career to 50 Tests if he continues working hard.Raina started his Test career with a century in Sri Lanka in 2010 and followed it up with two half-centuries in the next two Tests. In the following 14 Tests, however, he managed 459 runs at an average of 19.95 and lost his Test spot to Yuvraj Singh for the home Tests against England.”I have played just 17 Test matches,” Raina said. “I am the sort of guy who always believes in hard work and discipline. I know if I work really hard on my game, I will be able to play at least 50-60 Test matches.”Raina is part of the Virender Sehwag-led Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup and sees the match as another opportunity for him to push for a place in the Test squad. He had an average Ranji season – 304 runs from six matches – but scored four consecutive half-centuries in the recent one-dayers against England and was the man of the series. Raina hopes to translate this form to the longer version ahead of the Australia Tests.”I have been scoring runs in last 10 matches,” Raina said. “This is the chance. I need to do well in this game; then I can come back to the Test team.”Raina is one of the players who have been in line for the No. 6 spot in Tests, but hasn’t been able to maximise his opportunities. He said though, that he is looking to be more solid in his game.”I did well initially in the West Indies but didn’t get runs against England (in England, 2011). I have been batting well. I need to be more solid and mentally stronger.”The Irani Cup match features a number of players aiming to stake their claims for the Test team ahead of the Australia series that starts on February 22.”It’s an important game. If you look at the last series, we didn’t play well against England in Test matches. You have got the best team from Mumbai and all the players in Rest of India are trying to make a comeback. Viru bhai [Sehwag] is leading us, so his experience is there for us.” [Sachin Tendulkar] is playing in the other team . They have [Wasim] Jaffer and Ajit Agarkar has captained well. We have all youngsters in our team. Our coach, Vikram Rathore told us to just enjoy the game. This is a good challenge before the Australia series.”
